ABOUT US

Where is Quiet Corner?

The Mission setting is idyllic. Situated in remote, rustic and rural surroundings, amidst the dense jungles of the Nilgiris in South India and just next door to the world famous Bandipur and Mudumalai wild life sanctuaries, the place is simply enchanting!! Surrounded by the majestic blue mountains and teeming with the best of nature’s flora and fauna, where else can one wake up to the cooing of wild birds and the hum of the gentle jungle breeze? For those wanting to make a quick jaunt up the hills, Ooty is just an hour’s ride away.

Down Memory Lane

The Ministry began in 1971 with the vision God gave its founders, Dr Thomas and Marykutty Samuel, to reach the ‘inhabitants of the rocks’ in these remote jungle regions of the Nilgiris in South India. The mission was registered as a Charitable Trust in 1974.

Giving the rightful place for prayer, the Mission began as a ‘Prayer and Camp center’ with just one thatched hut in the tiny village of Mavanahalla. Today, in a place where there was no Christian witness, the ‘inhabitants of the rocks’ have truly begun to sing, a witness to Isaiah 42:11, the foundation promise of Quiet Corner. The ministry since then has diversified into a number of need-based ministries such as feeding programmes for poor village kids and vocational training like sewing programmes for young village girls and so on.
